Thus begins Week 5 of working from home. Many aspects have been fine, even nice! But either the company thinks we're getting depressed, or they think we're not working hard enough (spoiler: it's the second one), because the required performative participation is ramping up this week. Mostly in the form of video chats and 'daily' check-ins. (Sometimes more than once a day, really?)
And when I was physically present at work, these sort of participation exercises had their own benefits. Meetings were a good time to eat a snack, take a break, and -- on lucky occasions -- walk between buildings for some extra outdoor time. Now they're just -- not that.
Anyway, on the positive side: I hear birds chirping! Sometimes the cat sleeps next to me when I'm on video calls! I'm having mac and cheese for lunch!
