it's a nice thought?
Jun. 16th, 2020 05:48 amSometimes -- and more lately, although that could just be because I'm doing more shopping online -- other people in the apartment complex will take it upon themselves to walk around and drop off peoples' packages at their doors. (Delivery drivers typically leave them in the entryway / mail area.)
There are three levels to this, which is why I think it's more than one person:
1. Just set the package at the door.
2. Leave the package, knock, and walk away.
3. Knock and hang around, in order to personally hand over the package.
I have mixed feelings about this.
I think they probably have good intentions! They seem to be trying to do a nice thing, which is very neighborly of them.
But consider this:
*I LIKE going down to the mail area. I plan work breaks around it! It's fun!
*The only interruption I like less than the phone ringing is someone knocking on the door. The audacity! The disruption! How dare they!? (Do I get to blame this on being a millennial? I think I probably do.)
*Don't touch my stuff.
*Maybe I don't want my neighbors to know that I have three separate orders arriving from the craft store, okay? Can't a person just stress-craft and not have to share that information with their neighbors?
*It's SO AWKWARD. Someone knocks on the door, and who knows who it could be? So I have to disrupt the cat, and go check, and I'm always in my pajamas, somehow, and then I have to open the door and say 'oh thank you so much' when I really am grateful but also sort of would prefer they not ever do it again?
