The Great Phone Debacle of 2020 is resolved! Sort of, I mean. Technology is capricious! (Probably I should not blame the technology. The technology works great! I assume! The policies and programs created by corporations to control that software -- less great.)
Things that my new phone now does:
*Connect to a phone network. (I assume it makes and receives calls; I was blessed to not have to test this yesterday, and didn't want to ruin that.)
*Connect to wifi. (Truly, the most important thing.)
*Connect to bluetooth devices. (My old phone *said* bluetooth was working, but it couldn't sync my fitbit for three days, so I got the feeling it was not.)
Things my new phone does not do:
*Yeah, *somehow* (looking at you, apple) restoring from backup via itunes had the unhappy side effect of erasing everything in itunes that wasn't in the backup? It seems like? And then my phone was like 'this music includes things purchased under [your email from twenty years ago], please enter password.' Come on, buddy! I barely remember my password NOW! Especially since it took with it a lot of things that weren't *purchased* with that email, but that I loaded into itunes back in the days of cds. And it's like -- I still own those cds, but computers don't have a cd drive anymore?
*I'm pretty sure at some point I saved everything in itunes to an external drive. I'm not sure that will help, given my general lack of abilities when it comes to technology. (aka 'I'm not sure that will help, given apple's general willingness to Be The Problem.') But we'll see! I think I need some time to build up my willingness to deal with problems again after yesterday.
