marcicat: (snowbirds on a line)

Living in an apartment building is a weird combination of knowing things about people without actually knowing people, which kind of works for me as a person who is not good at socializing but enjoys the concept of community living.

Which is to say, I love watching what people put up on their hallway doors for different seasons. (And how long they leave those things there after the season is over.)

Here at the end(-ish) of January, there are two contestants in the 'who will leave their Christmas door decoration up the longest' category:

*'Tis The Season: this wooden sign made a repeat appearance for the 2020 season, and why not? What a classic. As stated in previous years, while the wording certainly implies a Christmas connection, technically it is *always* a season, making it hard to argue that this is overdue to come down.

*Red Berry Wreath: another classic repeat, but spiffed up for 2020 with some very pretty white flowers -- maybe poinsettias? Very nice; extra points for the floral refresh. Also transitions nicely into the Valentines holiday.

The family that used to put up the Christmas Bear Wreath moved away in 2020, but the people who moved in really lived up to their legacy. They put up the largest, gaudiest wreath made of ornaments that I have ever seen in a residential setting. It was amazing. A worthy successor to the Christmas Bear Wreath. They have since taken it down, leading one to wonder where, exactly, one stores such an enormous wreath during the 11 months of the year it's not on display.
