Would it really count as a story by me if it didn't have a cat in it?

The cat gave her a withering look, but obligingly sat down and did -- something. He blinked, and suddenly there was a completely average cat sitting in front of them. The cat glared at him like it could read his thoughts, and he quickly amended them. A very beautiful cat, just as majestic as the Spotted Cat, but significantly less likely to draw attention in a group of humans.

He looked at Master Yu, who shrugged. He looked at Xiao Wu, who beamed at him and didn’t seem to think anything was strange at all.

Today's internet search: are spiders territorial? (Yes, apparently, which is so convenient! Excellent news.)

Besides, the Xing Luo battle team would obey the rules of the contest; he was sure of it. He was considerably less sure that Martial Soul Hall would do the same.

There was no audience. The Chief of Martial Soul Hall had them all trapped in her web, and Xiao Wu was gripping his wrist tight enough to bruise. The death match in the arena felt like the least dangerous part of the day.

Not for the first time, he wondered whether they were ready for what was coming.

*Oh, the things we look up for writing purposes. Today's internet search: 'do rabbits kiss?'

*I have now written exactly six sentences so far today. They are not connected.

*Here are some sentences from yesterday instead:

“You’re not making any sense,” Er Long said, from much closer than he expected, and he swayed backwards to focus on her face. “Who could have died?”

“It’s like the tide.” He tried to wave his hand to demonstrate. “Don’t tell Lan De,” he said.

Her eyes went wide. “You could have died? Are you dying now?”

(PS: He is not dying. No one is dying! They are all fine!)

I have maybe started writing a thing inspired by Douluo Continent, which has been fun! It may not ever get shared out to the universe, but it helped a lot with de-stressing this week, and that can only be a good thing.

Next Sunday is the LAST Sunday of nanowrimo! WHAT?!?!

And lo, the Sunday six:

“There were a weird amount of questions about the days of the Alliance, is what happened.” Daqing settled his head on his paws. “Very suspicious, if you ask me.”

“I just did ask you.” He rubbed the spot between Daqing’s ears, and the purr got louder. “Do you really think it was suspicious?”

THIS IS NOT A DRILL; WE ARE AT THE HALFWAY POINT OF NANOWRIMO 2020!

[I was just about to post this with just the first sentence, and then I thought, 'oh right, the Sunday six.']

“Now you’re making it sound like it’s fusing you into one person,” Daqing said, exasperated. “How are you so bad at this?”

“It isn’t,” Shen Wei said, which was reassuring.

“We don’t think,” Yunlan added, which definitely wasn’t. Daqing glared at him. “What? We don’t! That’s good news!”

DAY 1: AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Also, six sentences for the Sunday six:

He stumbled over dirt and bits of concrete and he willed himself to go faster.

The criminal’s voice echoed even louder. “Is this what you wanted? I’ll end us both!”

“No!” He burst onto the walkway with too much momentum to stop.

Me: ::looks at current word count:: Oh, 300 words! That's a good amount, wow, good job, me. Guess I've got plenty of time to go do other things now!

1. Celebrated [personal profile] starandrea's birthday this week! Happy birthday Star!!!

2. Plenty of good reasons to stay in and have a quiet day today. Or not, as the mood strikes!

3. Chapter 6 is my favorite chapter so far! Between "Not that I noticed," and "I'm trying," this was one where as soon as I finished reading I went back to the beginning to read it again! I love it!

4. Having now tried the limited edition Kona Kola flavor of nuun tablets, I would describe them as "weird soda," but generally okay. But I did greatly enjoy the experience, regardless of the flavor!

5. My workplace (finally!) announced that they are extending remote work through the summer, much to my joy and relief.

6. It's haircut day! Or not, as the mood strikes!
marcicat: (yin yang hearts)
1. Coffee! (Getting a cup of coffee was one of the things I looked forward to about going to work. Sometimes the only thing, other than, you know, getting paid. And I tried to replace it with 'not having to commute,' which is indeed a very good thing that I love, but it turns out there was still a place in my heart for coffee. Even now, I am looking forward to having some tomorrow morning!)

2. I was getting a little concerned when my local grocery store did not have ANY Everything Bagel Seasoning this week, but Mom found some at a different store and now I am restocked! Thanks, Mom!

3. One more food-related good thing: a while back I had a coupon for cheese and I ended up with more sliced cheese than even I could reasonably eat before it went bad, so I did the 'layer it with parchment paper and freeze it' thing. And I can now say with some confidence that the cheese that was frozen and then thawed was still very delicious!

4. The weather! After several days of high heat and high humidity, today is refreshingly cool and breezy. And still sunny!

5. The CDC guidelines for workplaces give me a small amount of hope that I might not have to go back to the office in three weeks. (And if we do go back, maybe the company will *finally* address the incredibly poor layout, instead of just endlessly saying they are discussing it.) I'll take a small hope any day!

6. The cat generously let me sleep in for an extra hour today. Yay sleep! (And yay cats!)
marcicat: xkcd grownups (xkcd grownups)

4. John Oliver seeming genuinely delighted to have learned about competitive marble racing in Last Week Tonight. (I didn't watch it till Monday; it totally counts for this week!) The whole show is just under 22 minutes, and marble racing makes its appearance at about the 17:30 mark.

5. An absolutely FANTASTIC sign along a section of trail (through private property) that connects a local conservation area to the recreation/rail trail. The sign says 'PLEASE BE AWARE' and then there's a picture of two cute dogs. The next line reads: 'PROPERTY OWNERS,' and then finally: 'DOGS OFF LEASH.' And 1) that's a smart sign to put up, in so many ways, but also 2) it 100% definitely implies that the dogs ARE the property owners, and I love it.

6. Sunshine, and birds singing. <3

1. When I left the office for our "two weeks working from home" (ha ha), I left my work mug safely tucked in my desk. Because, I reasoned, I have so many mugs at home already! And I even have the matching twin of my work mug at home! (Somewhere.) After a while, it became clear that the twin mug needed to be found, because no other mug would do. And I have now successfully located it, and it is Very Good.

5. Naps.

6. This week I have been enjoying both Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Daily Social Distancing Show with Trevor Noah (both filming from their homes).

It felt like he’d just left, and yet had been away forever. He dropped his head on Da Qing’s shoulder. “I’m going to pass out now,” he muttered. “Stay, go, suit yourselves. We’ll meet up later.”

“Hey, don’t pass out yet,” Da Qing said, and he felt claws prickling in his shoulder.

But it's a Holiday Weekend, so it totally almost kind of counts!

I did, technically, write six sentences. Uh, today. They're not exactly connected.

("It's not completely formed in the classical sense yet. It's more a kind of string of words that you can connect in almost any way." -Music & Lyrics)

But I did write them! And in celebration of that, here's two sentences I did not write today.

“We could be having this conversation somewhere comfortable,” Da Qing interrupted. “With snacks.”

Well, I guess six sentences a week will still eventually become a story???

Unless -- “Wait, would it be better for you? To stay here?” Dark energy was more plentiful in Dixing. “The treaty --” He stopped, a shared memory suddenly replaying in his head.

Shen Wei looked away. “It’s not a concern,” he said.
