It’s Captain Marvel day! My ‘do everything on Saturday so Sunday is free for adventuring’ plan achieved moderate success.
Things I managed to do yesterday:
*went for a walk outside (got kind of sunburned; totally worth it)
*bought more trash bags (and remembered where the store put trash bags after they reorganized; an even bigger accomplishment!)
*watered the plants (the newest cutting is rooting in water; roots have appeared! feeling accomplished even though this miracle of nature had absolutely nothing to do with me)
Things I am going to try to do this morning:
*looks like cleaning the bathroom is still on the list
*figure out what’s going on this week?
*decide whether I need to read the summary of this movie before I see it

The building I work in is on a dead-end street, and it’s nice to take a short walk down to the end and back before I start my day. Last week I started my walk, and as I got towards the far end, I realized there was something in the road. A TURTLE. (Small turtle. Maybe about 6 inches long?)
I was going to take a picture, but when I got closer it got nervous and tucked everything in, so it would have sort of looked like a picture of a rock on asphalt, which didn’t seem super impressive. But it seemed to be headed across the road, and it was not very far across. A couple feet? Definitely less than 25%.
And I thought THIS IS MY TIME TO SHINE. I was gonna help that lil’ turtle cross the road! But first I thought maybe I should double check my ‘help a turtle cross the road’ info, so I pulled up the google box and did a quick review while I popped down to the end of the road. (There are no more buildings that far down the road, so it’s not like the turtle was in imminent danger of getting run over.)
It was probably less than two minutes by the time I got back, ready to rock and roll with my turtle assisting. But it was GONE! Not in the road, not on either side of the road (that I could see). WAS THERE EVER A TURTLE AT ALL?
So as far as I can figure out, the turtle was totally faking it when I walked by the first time, all ‘oh woe is me, the road is so wide, and I am so small, however will I get over to the side of my dreams?’ And then as soon as I passed by, it hustled itself right across. Well played, turtle. Well played indeed.

Okay, so there are hundreds of awesome photos from our trip, but I really love this one — check out our not-even-on-purpose matching game! Socks, shoes, backpacks — all color coordinated. (Also of note: extra leg room in the emergency exit row!)

Today I am going to attempt to stealth!chore. While telling myself it is a weekend day and I’m spending the day relaxing and enjoying the warm-ish weather, I shall try to sneak in a variety of weekend tasks that I don’t really feel like doing. I have no idea if this will work. I tried it yesterday and wound up taking a two hour nap instead. (Which was also nice!) So we’ll see. Stealth!chore powers activate!

*April fic: kinda sorta? I need to re-read it to see if it’s actually done, or if I just got tired of writing.
*turtle door art: SUCCESS
[Note: I totally couldn’t figure out the first set of instructions. I wound up using these instead, but I think it came out well!]
*vacuuming: achieved!
*prepared for the week ahead? well, more than yesterday, at least
*also, just watched ‘Stardust,’ thanks to a particularly funny ‘the new Daredevil vs Superman movie looks great’ post on my tumblr dash, and I thought it was surprisingly adorable!

As I was watching the movie, it seemed to come out of left field when Ronan called them “guardians of the galaxy.” Sure, they had sort of decided they’d try to save it, since there didn’t seem to be any other options except ‘die, most likely.’ But they really had no shot at it. Even they didn’t think they had a shot.
But Ronan, for whatever reason, did. The whole ending made so much more sense to me when I decided that he was the one who had (albeit inadvertently) given them the ability to hold the infinity gem. He called them the guardians of the galaxy when he was wielding the gem. He created a reality in which they had the capacity to stop him.
(Full disclosure: I did actually google Peter Quill to find out who his dad was, since that was the explanation the movie offered, but I got bogged down in the endless world of comics backstory. So I still don’t know.)

See, it’s sort of a funny thing. I’m going to work this morning, then leaving at 12:30 — meet with my new landlord at 1, sign paperwork, all that jazz. Then MOVING.
But I still have to go back to work tomorrow, because it was a non-negotiable sort of day. And I’m not super confident in my ability to move and unpack enough to make tomorrow morning manageable in a new space. So MOST of my stuff will be moving today, but I will actually NOT be moving until Friday or Saturday.
Very glad to have such a kickin’ horoscope for the day!
The industrious Virgo Moon says get busy and set right to work this morning. Mental faculties are sharp. Discussions are animated and words come from the heart. After a brief late morning lull, the Moon enters sociable Libra just minutes after high noon. A helpful lunar angle to Jupiter keeps the day’s activities flowing smoothly. Moods remain upbeat and largely free from worry. Optimism has definite advantages! Travel and communications are facilitated. Even if evening social plans suddenly change due to Venus’ testing angle with unpredictable Uranus, all works out well in the end.

1. 30 gallon totes are awesome! They can fit a *ton* of stuff. Downside: there is virtually no way said tote can be simultaneously A) full; and B) liftable.
2. Things that unexpectedly take up a huge amount of space: hangers! Such an incredibly awkward shape/size/everything!
3. I budgeted a certain amount for “start-up.” It probably should have been about 10% more. (Keep that in mind, future me!)
4. It feels like I will never be done packing, and yet I feel certain that the time will come that moving will be occurring instead. I’m just not sure how that transition is going to work.

Well, I guess this is where we find out whether or not my boss reads my blog. I’m thinking about leaving my job.
I mean, I like my job. Most of the time. But I think a few months of serious job searching will either 1) find me a job that fits me better, or 2) remind me of all the great things about my current job.
(Either way, I figure I’ll end up more satisfied at the end of it.)

I started re-watching Iron Man Armored Adventures season 2 last night, in preparation for continuing my August fic. I vaguely remembered that season 2 was the season with lots of screaming, but I hadn’t remembered quite how early it started. Does Tony seriously find a way to scream in agony inside the armor *every episode*? (There must be a way to fix that, right?)

Seeing Star Trek at 8 pm tonight! Seriously important viewing questions:
1. So are Chris Pike and Number One together in this universe, or what?
2. Can we get Christine Chapel this time?
3. And Janice Rand? (She would be totes awesome at kicking Kirk’s butt into being a better captain.)
4. Does Kirk really call the other Spock all the time to complain about how he and Spock aren’t BFFs? (Because that would be worth the price of admission right there.)
5. Does Uhura run the Enterprise’s underground trade for things like hair gel and alcohol, or is she just “in the know”?
6. WHALES.

1: Appearances of the following words: social, civility, tart, pteranodon, classy, stride, rental.
24: New songs “won” from my motivational song-winning game.
46: The number of times I used the word “thanks” or “thank.” Exactly equal to the number of times I used the word “tell” and one less than my usage of the word “phone.”
189: Difference in words from Scrivener to the NaNo site. Maybe the NaNo site is counting all my –’s as words. (Though honestly, I would have guessed there were more than 189 of them.)
1446: Paragraphs, at least according to Scrivener. No number available for how many of them are just a character saying, “What?”

I received a lovely comment on this is how the world begins while I was on my work-cation last week, requesting a list of which characters matched up to which fandoms. (I felt a little overwhelmed when I looked at the list, but I’ve given it a go!)
Also, my apologies to anyone who tried to read the story on AO3 when it was first posted; the formatting was all wonky. It should be fixed now!
(Note: When I wrote this is how the world begins, my goal was to include characters from every fandom I’d ever written in. I ended up bending the rules to include honorable mentions — Harry Potter, Inception, Star Trek — but everyone else up to that point made it in.)
I put the list behind a cut over on marcicatverse.

I usually have some kind of list going for weekend ‘stuff to get done.’ This weekend I also had the joke goal of finally getting past freakin’ level 11 in pinball. (Truly, the pinball deluxe brix arcade game is some quality time-eating entertainment.)
Well, I would like to report total success. I passed 11, then the spiral (vaguely familiar, like maybe I’d gotten there once before?), and then all the way to the rainbow-y level (18-ish, maybe?) before stalling out. Darn you two final blue bricks!
Despite having a new high score of over 27 million points (arcade games are awesome), the game only rates my skill as “you show promise.” While this is a distinct step up from “novice” and “amateur,” it makes me curious as to exactly *how many levels* this game has. (???)
[PS: Have received no more spam comments regarding Maryland bail bonds. Feel like I've violated the rules of fight club.]

*Andrea and I rewatched The Incredible Hulk (2008 version) on Wednesday, and that was fun. I still love Hulk’s expressions when he’s fighting the Abomination — he’s all ‘really? more fighting? WHY?’
Basically, the movie was still the same as ever. I ::heart:: the jogging bonus scene, because apparently I like the idea of the Avengers jogging. (Mission Impossible movies take note: 60 seconds of jogging footage through that creates character development and sets the scene is NOT the same thing as having sixty percent of your movie be shots of your characters running around after each other.)
In celebration of our rewatch, I searched out the awesome Merlin-as-the-Hulk AU fic, which was just as awesome this time around.
Never Pay The Reaper With Love Only, by little_giddy
(In which Merlin is the Hulk, Arthur is Betty, and they both get a lot of help from their friends.)
And a couple of movie!fics, both about the Bruce/Betty reunion.
Small Acts of Defiance, by icarus_chained
(The one where Tony kinda/sorta kidnaps Betty, but she’s cool with it.)
[far from here we are all right], by Feather (lalaietha)
(Natasha and Clint go recruiting; Betty is not unaware of how dysfunctional they all are.)

Extended Version of Superbowl Avengers Trailer
“The world has changed.”
-Nick Fury
(What *hasn’t* changed? Nick Fury’s job of presenting blatantly obvious exposition stuff to the audience but being cool enough so we listen anyway.)
(Also, I love that in the back-to-back-circle scene, Hulk is totally covering Clint’s blind side.)
(ALSO, I hope Black Sabbath kicked in some funding, or free cds or something. That t-shirt is in EVERY preview!)
Seriously, if you brought a bow and arrows to an alien spaceship fight, wouldn’t you want the Hulk covering you?
