workaday Wednesday
May. 5th, 2021 06:00 am*It's company meeting day! What a fantastic excuse to do as little work as possible!
In other news:
*Inspection update: the Tuesday inspection *did* happen, but it was just one firefighter checking to see if the smoke alarms all work. The property maintenance team didn't come in, so my moving status is still (presumably) unknown to them.
*In a thrilling (not really) reveal, the smoke alarms do NOT all work. Or rather, they all work individually, but one of them is not talking with the other two. (This is somewhat unnecessary, as they are all ludicrously close together. If they were the three points of a triangle, the longest side of that triangle would *maybe* be six feet. Rounding up.)
*Networked smoke detectors (particularly ones that speak and tell you which one is detecting something) are neat! And really helpful in a building with multiple floors, or one that's considerably bigger than my apartment. They are not very helpful in this particular circumstance, but conceptually, a good thing.
*The firefighter told me "they'll be coming along behind me to schedule a time to fix this." Imagine my lack of surprise when 'coming along behind me' turned out to mean 'probably at some point that will happen, but certainly not today.'
*It turns out that watching online videos of ordinary people putting out fires using various fire extinguisher and fire spray products is actually quite reassuring. (Relatedly, the number of people willing to film themselves lighting something on fire on purpose and then putting it out is quite high!)
