I like socks. I like my feet to be toasty warm in socks without any holes. Lots of times I even wear socks in the summer, but they’re a must for December — even when it’s 60 degrees out, like today. It’s a psychological thing, maybe? It just feels safer to have socks on, or something.

Last winter, I got some fantastic new SmartWool socks for Christmas. Yay! SmartWool is pretty damn smart, though, because their socks lasted almost exactly one year. Now some of my pricey SmartWool socks have holes in them, which is totally not cool.

Which is all basically a giant lead-in to the Fox River socks story. So I’m trying a different brand of socks, right? And they’re snazzy and available at the next plaza over, which is a nice bonus. But! The sizing is… unique. Here’s what the first package I picked up said:

MEDIUM SHOE SIZES: Women’s 6-8.5

Right, I thought to myself, that’s just on the edge of being too small. So I grabbed the large (same brand, same style). It said:

LARGE SHOE SIZE: Women’s 10-12.5

I must have looked like a crazy person, peering carefully back and forth from one package to the other. But in fact, it appears that Fox River has sadly neglected size “Medium and a Half,” also known as “everything between 8.5 and 10.”

I did check around for any packages that might be labeled “MEDIUM PLUS” or “SLIGHTLY LESS THAN LARGE,” but no luck. Ultimately, my lunch break was over, so I bought one of each, and figured they’d average out.
