Work continues to be work. Yesterday we got the latest update about the "mandatory in-person" company gathering (currently scheduled for August, so who knows what will happen between now and then). I'm somewhat boggled by the suggestion (guideline? recommendation? requirement? it's not clear!) that everyone should take a covid test the day before.
So... it's safe to gather, but not really? We're getting a lot of mixed messaging about this event, which was already of dubious value (to me, at least). It's not like we're getting together for a quilting bee, or a barn-raising, or something that would have a tangible and worthwhile end product that requires a lot of people working together in the same physical space. As far as I can tell it's just to, uh, make us feel good about the company? Bonding time???
The truly eyebrow-raising part of the communication for me was where it said 'if you have health concerns about attending, work with HR.' And it was not AT ALL clear whether that meant 'work with HR for accommodations,' or 'work with HR to pack your bags and say goodbye to your job.' I don't *think* they intend these things to come across as ominously as they do, but WHO KNOWS?
