If Murderbot ultimately comes around to the desire to not kill all the humans he encounters, it’s not because he’s come to identify with them. It’s because they produce something watchable. As he puts it in one of the novellas, “Granted, I liked the imaginary people on the entertainment feed way more than I liked real ones, but you can’t have one without the other.”
