workaday Thursday
Oct. 21st, 2021 05:50 am*Three years ago (2018), my workplace did a Halloween costume contest, and I figured I might as well participate. (I dressed up as Rosie the Riveter, after an extensive internet search for 'easy workplace costumes.' It was relatively fun, as far as work event participation goes, and I won a prize that pretty much let me break even on the cost of the shirt and bandana, so that was cool.)
*Two years ago (2019), my workplace unexpectedly skipped Halloween and had a "Day of the Dead" celebration instead, which was presented with zero explanation. Since the main thing I know about it is that it is absolutely not Mexican Halloween, it seemed that perhaps it should not be being offered as a costume-and-candy workplace thing? But workplaces bumble along where angels fear to tread, or however that saying goes.
*Last year (2020), remote work was still being called "temporary," with a "firm" (hahahaha) office reopening date of January 2021. Halloween was moderately recognized and I managed to win a gift card by memorizing a bunch of spooky trivia just in time for spooky trivia night. (Tip: if your workplace offers a theme trivia night, they probably ALSO googled the exact theme name for question ideas.)
*This year (2021, how did we get here?), the costume contest is back, trivia is off, bingo is on. I'm currently planning to skip costumes but participate in bingo. (It's on zoom! Limited social interaction! Ideal!) I can only imagine the kind of feedback they get after each and every one of these events.
