Couldn't get my fitbit to sync to the app this morning, tried all the usual things:

*just refresh it a bunch more times to see if the problem will fix itself
*quit the app and try again
*update the app
*turn the phone all the way off and then on again

None of these worked, though I did manage to identify that the likely problem was my fitbit itself failing to bluetooth. (Holding the fitbit next to the phone and saying 'see, it's right here!' did not help.)

Consulted the internet and decided the easiest / least likely to delete my unsynced data option to try next was 'restarting' the fitbit. This mystical process seems to be different for each style of fitbit, but this one involved plugging it into the charger and holding both sides of it for ten seconds. (HOW do they come up with these things???)

Anyway, got the beep and the fitbit logo (not a smiley face as promised, very disappointing), and SURPRISE suddenly bluetooth COULD find my fitbit and connect, A MIRACLE OF TECHNOLOGY!

All fixed now, I guess, and now 'restart fitbit' can be added to the list of usual things to try!

*I'm taking a few days off starting Thursday, so I just need to get through today and tomorrow.

*Today includes a 'crisis' meeting first thing in the morning, except that it was maybe a crisis last week when we first found out about it, but the meeting got pushed to today because one person was on vacation? So maybe it is not a crisis? Hard to say.

*Got a new Fitbit that measures my relaxation. Not shockingly, my overall stress score got significantly worse yesterday than it was over the weekend. Now I'm stressed that I'm a failure at relaxation.

*People at work are like, 'oh, are you doing anything fun on your days off?' And I'm like, 'you know, sleeping, crying, overthinking every aspect of my life, the usual.'

*Last week I attended (needlessly, it turned out) a meeting about my workplace's office reopening plan, which included a brief section about the building's alarm system, and one person expressed how challenging it was to hustle to the alarm panel to shut it off if someone accidentally armed it while people were still inside. I managed not to say, 'actually, it turns out you can alarm it at one door and then sprint around the building with the lights off and still make it back to your starting point within the 30 second window,' because luckily I remembered that we had probably not been supposed to do that, all those years ago. Ah, good memories!

When I think of something, I always feel like I must be the last person in the whole world to think of it. But then I tell myself that statistically, that's unlikely, right?

Which is to say, it occurred to me this week that since the interchangeable fitbit bands are two separate pieces, they can be mixed and matched! (I was trying to decide between teal or light blue, and all of a sudden my brain was all, 'wait wait, consider this -- BOTH!')

It's great; I'm very happy with it; definitely one of the better things to come out of this week so far.

*The week that had all of August's events in it is now complete! YAY! ::sigh of relief::

*Nothing improves a zoom meeting like having a cat in the frame.

*The dentist visit went waaaaay better than last time.**

*Duolingo included this charming sentence: "The cat is already dressed for the party."

*And today, the prize for getting through the week: new fitbit band!

[**Notes about the dentist: Okay, one, there's this thing they do where they're checking your gum health, right? And the last time I had it done it hurt SO MUCH. And the hygienist was like 'mm, not good, there's some bleeding.' And I was like 'no sh*t there's some bleeding, you just jabbed me with a sharp metal tool like fifty times!' But APPARENTLY that is not a universal -- I don't even know what to call it! Method? Experience? ANYWAY, this time I had a different (better!) hygienist, and the test was sooo comfortable and there was no jabbing or bleeding and I can tell you for certain it is not because my gums have experienced a miraculous improvement. And SECOND, they can put that numbing gel on your gums just for a cleaning! Just because you want it! Sometimes it's not even that something hurts, but that I expect it to hurt, you know? And so when I expected it NOT to hurt, it was much easier. So I have LEARNED SOME THINGS this week, for sure.)

*Best thing about caramelizing onions in the crock pot overnight — even though I slept in and am still in my pajamas, I have *already* been productive today, because onions! ACHIEVEMENT ACTIVATED.

*But I’m still hoping to do other things too, because it’s domestic chores day! Time for cooking, laundry, and art!

*Totally random other goal for the day: I keep meaning to change my fitbit app picture from a winter pic to a summer pic, but haven’t done it yet. Is today the day?

It turns out that the reason I was able to disassemble my fitbit while sleeping last week was not, in fact, evidence of a heretofore unknown skill. No, in fact, the band is sort of broken. (Sort of, in the sense that it IS meant to be easy to take apart, just not quite THAT easy.)

And I was concerned that it might accidentally disassemble itself in a way that would lead it to getting lost, which would be bad. So yesterday I stuck it in my pocket, which was okay, I guess, except I really missed padding my step count by drumming on the steering wheel. Also there is a thing where I really like being able to see things to prove they are still there, because I apparently have an iffy relationship with object permanence. (It’s not that I don’t believe the thing still exists; I’d just prefer to keep an eye on it.)

So today I have used the fix-all solution of duct tape to make it harder for the band to detach itself from the tracker, and the fitbit is back on my wrist. We’ll see how this adventure develops!

Went out for day 3 of hiking this morning — we were out on the trails for a couple of hours, and (kind of guesstimating) must have walked around a mile and a half? Much of it on an incline, even!

Fitbit gave me 14 “active minutes” for that. Really? Because I’ve gotta say it certainly *felt* like a lot more than 14 of those minutes were active!

[PS: I am totally fine with it — fitbit can count my activity however it wants. I just thought it was funny, and I think funny things should be shared, to increase the general joy in the universe.]

Adventure #1: more snowshoeing!
(There is definitely a part of me that feels like just sleeping and lounging around in my pajamas all day. But based on past experience, that would leave me feeling restless and cranky for the next five days at work. So: to the outdoors!)

Adventure #2: robot vacuum!
(Got to wait for quiet hours to be over to test out my new robot buddy, so that will be an afternoon adventure.)

Adventure #3: back to the Vernal Falls!
(Fitbit adventures totally count, right?)

At one point, the fitbit app on my phone stopped changing the moon icon when I’d reached my sleep goal. With the latest update, the happy full moon is back!

(It’s one of those things that’s really not a big deal either way, but I like seeing the icon change, and now it does, and I say why not celebrate the small victories?)

((also I love sleeping))

(((today I went back to sleep for a bit after I got up the first time just so I could hit my sleep goal, because I figured I probably wasn’t going to have too many successes today, so I might as well at least have one)))
