不忘 | Don't Forget, by dragongirlG

Wei Wuxian blows out a breath, putting his hair up in a messy ponytail as he recalls his first few days in the modern world. They'd been disastrous even by his standards, but he thinks anyone else would have reacted with just as much terror and confusion. Somehow, over two millennia had passed since Wen Chao threw him into the Burial Mounds, and cultivation had become an ancient myth mentioned only in obscure history books. No one had a golden core anymore, and talismans were sold as good luck charms but held no real power. Spiritual techniques had been replaced by waves and waves of technological innovation.

Wei Wuxian hadn't been able to recognize a single thing around him.

Sometimes you listen to an audiobook, think 'wait, I wonder if this book has fanfic,' and LO!

Fundamental, by clottedcreamfudge

“A simple box step should be sufficient to begin with.”

“Great plan,” Kiem says. “Box step! Love it.”

“You don’t have to know what a box step is, Kiem.”

“Oh, thank fuck.”

Would You Come Home?, by s6115

“It’s only that usually around his point, my friends would come and visit at Gusu. I miss them greatly. They are very fond of Jin Ling as well, and so I was wondering if perhaps they could come here?”

“Oh, no, are you talking about Jingyi?”

“Both Jingyi and Zizhen are very fond of you,” Sizhui said which wasn’t entirely a lie. “Zizhen called us all best friends.”

It's almost this fic's five-year anniversary! I am continually boggled by the passage of time!

These Things Stay the Same, by notevenyou

After a career covering news across the world, journalist Wei Wuxian is unexpectedly on his way home with a child in tow. Unfortunately, the path home isn't without obstacles.

“I will climb to where you are” or: the bunny book, by ladyofrosefire, NotAFicWriter

Lan Wangji, who does usually take his lunches alone and thus has no background noise interfering with the clarity of his outrage, says, “Your artist added a second rabbit.”

“I’ve never known you,” Xichen says, “to be affronted by the presence of more rabbits than expected.”

Cold Springs, Warm Heart, by lotusxclouds

He had said “dig” with such a ring to it that it sounded so fun. But this, this, is not fun.

He had decided to position the cold springs a distance away from the centre of their village so that people could enjoy the cold waters without the noises of the village distracting them. When he told Wen Ning this he simply said, “By people, you mean Lan-er-gongzi.”

#WarPrizeJiSeason, by PorcupineGirl

Jiang Cheng, of course, is relieved to find out that Yiling Laozu doesn't actually want anything from them except lotus seeds good for planting. He tells the other sect leaders that the Yiling Laozu seems to be a practical sort of guy; they should certainly offer him things out of gratitude, but he probably won't want the kinds of silks and jade the Jin, for example, were thinking of sending him.

The other sect leaders, however, hear something different. The Yiling Laozu wants... to plant seeds? He wants beautiful flowers? Ah, obviously he wants them to send their most beautiful, virtuous virgins and Sect Leader Jiang is just too young and naive to understand!

River Eyes, by AgentFreeWill

After some consideration, Wei Wuxian leaves two bowls on the kitchen table, one with the last of jiejie’s fish soup (Wei Wuxian stares at it mournfully but he has a guest) and one with the leftover salad from dinner. Then he hustles Wei Yuan out of the kitchen crying “Homework! Homework! Even friends of dragons must do homework!” and golden eyes watch them go.

Wei Ying got his first dragon feather when he was very small: he remembers another boy handing it to him on the street in the dead of winter, when he was cold and hungry and couldn’t believe the happy feelings that came with it.

Yiling was a burgeoning city nestled at the base of a mountain that wasn't there.
And there were many stories about that.

Leaving the Winter of Your Life, by delgaserasca

They had to send a Vulcan, Jim thinks, like those people haven’t suffered enough. Sent a Vulcan to his ma’s door to ask for something nobody had any business asking for, and put Jim in the awkward position of having to say no to a guy who, a year ago, had lost his entire planet.

Just go forward like you mean it, by tawaen

Wei Wuxian knows Nie Huaisang has been here, when every storyteller and musician is repeating vignettes from his courtship with Lan Wangji. He winces to hear a romantic re-telling of rescuing Lan Wangji from the xuanwu cave. Lan Wangji wasn't even conscious! There was nothing romantic about it – they were both far too injured to profess their love and devotion... And who would confess in such a dangerous situation? Completely unrealistic.

I've reached the final 13 states for the SUMMER READING ADVENTURE, and I fully admit I'm reaching on some of these. Genuinely was not expecting "read a book where a character travels by boat, is about boats, or set in Michigan" would be such a challenge, but I scrounged up a brief mention of boat travel in this one:

somehow, someway, we all get to someday, by Stratisphyre

“You’re the one who’s going to have to seduce him, A-Chang. This whole thing makes me want to go shave his goatee and then hide in a bottle of wine.”

“I hope A-Ying takes after me,” he moaned through a playful smile.

The tea to my heart, by blackmorphos

“You will have tea,” the man said in a low deep voice that brooked no argument.

By the time that had filtered into his brain the guy had already walked away and disappeared out the back. Wei Ying looked down. No coffee, but there was a blue patterned teapot with a small matching cup, and a plate with a steam bun on it. Wei Ying blinked stupidly at it for a few moments before deciding it wasn’t worth arguing with the scarily intense man over it and reached for the bun.

“I thought he’d be hotter,” the smaller one said, which Lan Wangji, despite having bigger problems, had found slightly offensive. He is wearing his nice brogues. What more do these people want from him.

My strategy on Monday: do ALL the things! how hard could it be?!?!?!?

RESULTS:
*very hard
*the things did not get done
*this was not a good strategy

My strategy on Tuesday: do the fun things! how much does work really matter anyway?!?!??!?

RESULTS:
*arguably better than Monday
*I did laundry?
*it turns out work is how I make money to do things like 'buy a new microwave,' so it does actually sort of matter? (PS: THE MICROWAVE WAS ON SALE, THOUGH! SO, LIKE, LESS WORK STILL EQUALS MICROWAVE!)

My strategy on Wednesday: well, I stayed up late Tuesday night reading curse of the dragon emperor, by lulu_kitty, so that I could count it for the 'based on a legend' category in the summer reading adventure (a made up legend counts, right? I mean, all legends are basically made up? I guess?), so I don't really have a strategy for the day other than 'staying awake during the day, sleeping at night'

RESULTS (in progress):
*it is currently day and I am currently awake, so: winning

It's been a looooooooooooong time since I read Pegasus Purgatorio by MrsHamill, and I haven't read much SGA at all in a while, but it's over 80000 words and I can count it as 'book with a two word title' for the summer reading challenge, so let's gooooo!

Rodney straightened. "You think we're ever going to be able to go back to Earth?"

"I don't know. Maybe someday."

[personal profile] starandrea and I have signed up for the SUMMER READING ADVENTURE at our local library (open to all ages this year!). Since I don't read a lot of books, but do read a lot of fanfic on the internet, I've done minimal research (aka I looked it up one time) to guess that 80,000+ words can reasonably be considered "a book."

Just finished Separate Ways by PepperPrints (and associated sequels). Does the mythosaur count as an "animal that is now extinct"? (Technically, would ANY Star Wars fic count as being "about something ancient," given that they're set "a long time ago"???)

All for One and One for All, by IzzyMRDB

Force Dyads were supposed to be extremely rare, and such a strong Force bond with more than one person was unheard of, even if there were rumours about Revan.

Obi-Wan still sometimes wished they were rarer.
