let's get this month done
Mar. 30th, 2026 07:46 amFinal results: mostly crochet, a little writing. Reached skein #5 (of a probably 8) on my current crochet project, had some thoughts about future projects.
It seems like it must be the moment to post the obligatory ‘wtf tumblr’ ramble. Here’s my question: are we required to delete our tumblr accounts in solidarity? Or can we just ignore them like all the other ghosted sites?
(Also, did I ever delete my lj account? I don’t think so. Huh. Probably I should do that, but history suggests I will not.)
I still miss delicious. I’m sure I will miss tumblr too. But it’s been neat to see people popping back up on my dw reading page! Hey there!

A huge thank you to susannaoh for figuring out I was talking about The Meaning of Geranium, by Endrina (part of the The secret language of plants series).
And of course it turns out I *did* have it bookmarked, and have also recced it before! This is the summary I put on my pinboard bookmark:
“Severus and Remus raise Harry together in secret, which goes great until it doesn’t, and Harry goes to Hogwarts, which goes terribly until it doesn’t, and then everyone fights Voldemort, which is hard even when you have a Seer on your side.”
Which sounds cool! But the series is over 350,000 words long, and that summary just didn’t help much when I was trying to find something based on ‘that one where Percy gets exasperated that his dad keeps getting into life-threatening situations, and I think he gets an awkward romantic moment with someone but I can’t remember who.’
(PS: It was Oliver Wood.)
((PPS: Thank you susannaoh!))

One of my goals for the past few years has been to get some of my older writing up on AO3 or moved from the old google docs over to Dreamwidth. For various reasons this has never actually happened until now!
The migration has begun — but I’m working backwards through time, and I’m pretty sure I’ve already posted the only Christmas!fic of the bunch. Maybe not? Anyway, it’s possible this plan wasn’t very well thought out, but there it is.

“Cat macros, what you had for breakfast, and that weird growth on your toenail are important; the macros were cute, breakfast meant you were less grouchy at work, and hey, that doctor you saw was kind of hot, it’s the life you live and by definition that makes it the most important thing you will ever do, being the medium by which you do anything at all. Human memory is volatile, we lose so much of our lives to background beyond recall and our lifespan is approaching the century mark, and in that time, we will be many different people, dozens, sometimes a couple of different ones every day, but I won’t remember it the same, memory is volatile, but when I read my journal, I get to meet every woman I’ve ever been again. She was important, all of them were; they made me. And years from now, when I read this, I’ll read this entry, by the woman I am now and I won’t be then, and I’ll be able to remember her. My mind is a container for all the people I’ve been, the people I am, and the people I could one day be; its a world entire in there, and that’s the world who judges what is important enough to write.”

A couple days ago I took a picture of my hot chocolate (as one does):
And then I thought to myself, “I wonder if that would make a good icon?”
And then I thought, “Don’t I already have an icon kind of like that?”
And THEN I thought, “Maybe I should categorize my icons, because that would be sort of like doing something productive, but more fun and less — well, productive.”
So, by the numbers:
Out of 99 icons, 20 of them are cats.
13 are birds, with a subset of 8 ‘birds standing on one leg.’
A whopping 29 are ‘other animals,’ including unicorns, dinosaurs, badgers, and the alot.
I’ve also got 11 ‘nature’ icons and five I lumped under ‘people.’ (Does Misha Collins need his own category?)
Which doesn’t at all add up to 99. But it did prompt me to make a suggestion to dw_suggestions about how awesome it would be to be able to sort by icons the same way we sort by tags.
[Questions:]
[Is a tiger a cat? Or, because it's Hobbes, should it count as fandom? What about a DW Dreamsheep Uhura? Computers, animals, or fandom? Do cat pawprints in snow count under cats, or nature? Do wings around a heart count as a person, or should I just accept the necessity of a miscellaneous category?]

For anyone reading at the wordpress site, commenting is off. While the auto-spam is sometimes hilarious, the frustration is winning out. I’m relatively confident that I have managed to deactivate commenting without accidentally deleting anything important.
All posts are mirrored over on dreamwidth, with extra tags and iconage. Comments welcome!

I (finally) finished my ::cough:: February fic, here in mid-March. Still, finished! I’m trying to work back through fics from last year and get them posted up at marcicatverse, since googledocs 1) keeps screwing up the links every time it “upgrades” and 2) won’t upload to A03.
(Which is a long way of saying, that’s where this one is!)
Howling down the moon (aka dinner and a movie)
“It seemed like a good idea at the time,” Steve finished, and Darcy wondered how many people were already saying that about the Avengers.

Traditionally, there is a season between winter and summer, right? I believe it’s called spring, but we appear to have skipped it this year, so I can’t be sure.
Really — last Thursday it was raining and *so* cold. I wore a turtleneck and long underwear under my jeans. Today I’m barefoot and wearing a t-shirt with capris, and it’s hot. I hardly recognize it out there!
(Previous question re: weekend work jaunt: should I bring *two* coats, or will one suffice? New question re: weekend work jaunt: shorts y/n?)
WEATHER, WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE? PLS EXPLAIN.
[On a completely unrelated note, I have somehow bafflingly been issued four invite codes for dreamwidth, followed by five more, followed by five more after that, for a total of 14 codes, which is seriously making me feel inadequate in the number of friends I have. Anyway, they're up for grabs if anyone wants to claim 'em.]

(I think)
*Andrea sent me this link to JournalPress, and I used one of my Dreamwidth invite codes to start The Marci Rating System (dreamwidth style!).
Here goes something!
