If I Were ‘A Were,’ by syriala

Just a happy AU where all the Hales are alive, it takes Stiles all of three days to figure out they’re werewolves, and he spends the next few months making increasing unsubtle wolf-related puns while Peter cracks up in the background.

“The only impressive thing is how still no one caught on. I’m running out of things to say,” he complained and Peter snickered.

More Christmas fics! 'Tis the season.

only fools rush in, by andromeda3116

(A Jyn/Cassian fake!dating modern AU where they spend Christmas at an English manor.)

"Jyn talked herself into a corner with her grandma," Han explained. "Now she needs a fake boyfriend for Christmas."

Mistletoe's Overrated Anyway, by stilinski

(A Stiles/Derek super fluffy AU where Stiles spends Christmas with the Hales in New York because of weather.)

“Have you seen the snow?” Laura asks as though they hadn’t been talking about anything else. “We’re totally building midnight snowmen.”
marcicat: keep calm it's christmas (keep calm it's christmas)
Hey, it's Christmas! Fic recs whenever! Here are two v.fluffy Teen Wolf Christmas AUs. Basically if a Hallmark Christmas movie was Teen Wolf themed, but with no angst.

*Gift Shop, by Trelkez

"You remember my name," Stiles said, startled. Derek ducked his head, feeling oddly caught out. "And here I am, mentally calling you—" His mouth snapped shut. "Spruce ... Man." Derek didn't need to listen to his heartbeat to know that was a lie.

*You Got Us An Ornament, by TheRealNightTempest

Stiles crept down the opposite end of the aisle, past pom-poms and pipe cleaners and a whole lot of googly eyes. “Thank you for making me paranoid, Scotty. I’m playing James Bond in the middle of the craft store because I have no idea what you’re talking about, but I think Derek might."
marcicat: (hug it out)

It is cloudy today. Rain later. Apparently this is helping with our drought, which is awesome in the long run and just very dreary in the present moment.

To counteract this, I’ve gone to my pinboard page and searched the word “summer.” That ought to keep me busy for a while.

First up:

last night’s dress (tiptoe out of this mess), by hito

“I’m not really dating Derek!” Stiles forces out, slamming his eyes shut. “He’s a werewolf! Because werewolves exist! Everybody I know is a werewolf!”

This weekend I learned that starandrea has never seen Beauty and the Beast (the animated one). And then I brought up fanfic Beauty and the Beast AUs, which led me to go find this one and rec it:

tie your napkin ’round your neck, cherie, by magneticwave

“Scott skids into the door breathlessly and shouts, “THERE’S A GIRL IN THE CASTLE,” and promptly brains himself on one of the casserole dishes.”

This is the quote I always think of when I think of B&B AUs. Jackson is the beast, Lydia is the heroine, but it’s from Stiles’ POV (aka the teapot) so it’s a lot about him and his developing romance with Derek, who’s a wheelbarrow. What’s not to love?

marcicat: (owl heart)

Space AU! Werewolves in space! Happy ending! What’s not to love?

Tore a Line in the Sun, by stilinski

Derek clears his throat. “So, is there a reason the contact details on your Missing poster are for a Sheriff?”

marcicat: (snowbirds on a line)

Teen Wolf fic is sort of like Harry Potter fic for me — sure, it’s fun to read about them going on adventures, but mostly I just like to read about them being okay. Living their lives, shopping for groceries, doing crafts, whatever. This fic was great for that!

Not Quite Lost (Not Quite Found), by alocalband

“Just be careful not to give the book club any ideas. They’ve been looking for gossip on you since you got here.”

(Although my experience with small towns has never been of the ‘quirky book club and friendly neighbors rooting for you’ variety, it’s one of those tropes I never seem to get tired of!)

Went looking for comfort fic, since it’s been a bit of a week. Found puppies!

And Then There Are Days Like This, by entanglednow

This emergency is surprisingly fluffy, as emergencies go.

marcicat: (hershey kiss)

After a cursory search, it doesn’t look like I’ve recced this one yet — it’s a little astonishing that July of 2013 was basically a different era in Teen Wolf fics, but there it is.

we knew every line, by magneticwave

Stiles is totally going to be the best fake boyfriend ever. According to Allison and Lydia, he and Scott rate 17/20 in believability and 19/20 in cuteness. They’ve got this shit locked down.

I have been greatly enjoying reading through the fic tag at skoosiepants’ tumblr.

(Which made me think, ‘don’t I recognize that name?’)

SGA flashback!

Once Upon a Furry Octopus, by skoosiepants

“Okay,” Rodney narrowed his eyes at him, “I think we’re missing something important about the pens.”

I read this one just yesterday! Teen Wolf AU, with 500% more superheroes and Hale family members.

The Guard and Red, by andavs

He always wore all black, aside from a deep red hooded vest strapped across his chest, his nose and mouth covered by black fabric. He looked like he was straight out of a comic book, and not necessarily in a good way.

Maybe in a delusional kind of way.

marcicat: (tron y/n)

Okay, this was another ‘went searching and couldn’t find it’ quote: there was a Magnificent Seven ATF fic where I swear Chris said the line, “If there’s one thing I won’t tolerate in this office it’s intolerance!”

I can’t find it, although google now thinks I’m really interested in workplace conflict seminars. Still, it deserves a shoutout.

And to toss in a fic with an actual link, how about that Teen Wolf fic where Scott gets turned into an actual puppy?

“I have glitter fairies to go beat up now,” Derek says. “Because my life is a farce.”

I have zero pinboard tags for The Emperor’s New Groove. AO3 has 33 listed works for The Emperor’s New Groove. Since I do not have today off from work, and did not think of this yesterday, I leave this as a placeholder and a reminder for myself — maybe check some of those out!

(As an actual fic rec, I liked Sending Out an S.O.S., by fauvistfly — Teen Wolf, worth getting the song stuck in your head.)

In light of the latest kerfluffle over fanfic (Comic-Con, I’m looking at you, and it is a judging look!), I would like to reaffirm: I love fanfic. And I love Teen Wolf fanfic. Do you know how many episodes of Teen Wolf I’ve seen? Zero. And yet the number of fics I’ve read is ::cough:: significantly more than zero. I would go so far as to call myself a fan of Teen Wolf, or at least fan-adjacent.

Anyway, fanfic is awesome. Here’s one I’ve read multiple times, that bears little to no resemblance to the show, and is therefore something I like!

Do You Want It On Your Biscuits, Baby?, by clio_jlh

Stiles is about to turn eighteen, and he’s ready to make something happen with Derek. Scott, being the good friend that he is, has a suggestion.

1. I do not have food poisoning! (Note: last March I did, in fact, have food poisoning, so this is not as completely random as it might have been)

2. The lovely staff at my local Panera let me linger for over an hour with only a coffee this evening. And they turned a blind eye to my eating outside food. (To be fair, I would have also purchased a toffee nut cookie, had there been any available.)

3. This fic made me laugh: From the Cradle to the Grave, by jezziejay

It’s not that the sheriff doesn’t like Derek. It’s just that he thinks Stiles could do better.

But Stiles has been an adult for over two years now, so he can make his own choices. Even if they are terrible.

Also, the sheriff doesn’t like Derek.

“You know something’s gone terribly wrong with your life when you’re teaming up with six teenagers and the man you once arrested for murder in order to rescue your son from a group of evil Alpha werewolves.”
-from Burn By Night, by thebrotherswinchester

(And you know you’re reading a lot of fanfic when you try to remember if you’ve read this one before, and it goes something like this: ‘Well, the Sheriff gets kidnapped, but it’s not that one where he’s in a cave, and it’s not the one where he and Stiles both get kidnapped off the bus…’ And it turns out you have read it before, but by that time you’re already sort of reinvested, so you finish it out anyway, and the rewards are hand-knitted gloves and gas station talks, and it was well worth it.)

((PS: I don’t know that I’ve ever really talked to any other patrons at a gas station. It seems like a thing, though, in fic.))

I was sort of overwhelmed with Christmas adorableness when this fic first showed up on tumblr/pinboard, but I saw it again yesterday and found myself ready to dive back into the Christmas spirit already.

if i built you in miniature, by keskasi

Derek hosts a kids tv show and builds model trains! Stiles works at a gift shop and likes Christmas sweaters! Together they don’t have to fight any crime! At all!

(No, really, it’s just a super cute fic about Derek and Stiles and Christmas.)

Laura ignores him, which is probably a character trait of hers, throws up her arms, and launches into a pretty impressive Derek impression. “It’s all ‘we have a reputation to uphold,’ ‘Laura, do you think evergreens group like that in nature?’ ‘There’s not enough tinsel, Mom, don’t you understand we need tinsel,’ and the ever-timeless deciduous trees argument.”

Support Systems, by Anonymous (part of the Teen Wolf Holidays 2013 fic exchange)

Features Sheriff POV, excellent Melissa McCall and Chris Argent, and Stiles with magical emissary powers! Also, a surprisingly well-adjusted Derek and surprisingly good Scott-as-Alpha!

It’s the first time they’ve spoken since the end of the Alpha pack and the Darach. Derek leans across the picnic table while Stiles is talking to Cora on his other side, and what he whispers to John on this momentous occasion is, “It’s ground turkey. Stiles made me promise. I’m sorry.”

I read this Avengers fic the other day:

Groundwater, by legete

And in the fic, Darcy gets stuck down a well and makes a Lassie reference. (“They already stuck me in Utica, and that was before I went all Little Timmy on them.”)

And then I was reading this Teen Wolf fic:

Divided We Stand, by KouriArashi

Another Lassie reference! (“Do you know, Timmy never actually fell down a well?”)

Naturally I had to check this out. According to google, Timmy never fell down a well. The only character to ever fall down a well, in all 19 seasons, was Lassie. (Season 17, the episode “For The Love of Lassie” — it was a two-parter, and she was totally rescued, no worries.)

So there it is. Good to know.

I was skimming through the Pacific Rim fic on pinboard and AO3 last night, as one does, and it was a beautiful microcosm of fandom classics: kid!fic, domestific, mental bonding (canon!), hooker!fic, high school AU, and — of course — coffee shop AU. Because apparently no fandom can be complete without a coffee shop AU these days.

(And possibly no discussion of coffee shop AU could be complete without a shoutout to I’ve Got Nothing To Do Today But Smile, by gyzym. Seriously, I couldn’t remember the title so I googled ‘inception coffee shop au’ and it was the first result.)

(In fact, was Inception the last movie that got lots of fic that didn’t have huge amounts of semi-canon background (Star Trek, anything Marvel or DCU)?)

Extra note: Pacific Rim fic was a nice change from Teen Wolf’s all teen angst, all the time fic. Grownups! They are interesting!
