I went searching for this one on my nook earlier this week, found it, and then wound up re-reading the whole thing.

Her Kingdom As Great, by MarbleGlove

(Labyrinth fic!)

“You’re engaged to the king of the djinn?” Nasir looked halfway between appalled and ecstatic.

Sarah looked pained. “I’d say we’re in negotiations at this stage.”

The Mystery of Mailing

On November 14 (note: a Monday), a package was shipped to me. Estimated delivery: 1-3 days. I even got a handy link to track the Post Office’s progress on my box. Yay!

Little did I know of the MYSTERIOUS MYSTERY lurking between Ohio (where my box started) and New Hampshire (where I am). Tracking started out just as expected:

November 14: URBANA, OH

From there it traveled to the bustling hub of Columbus, OH, and by November 16th was as far as Memphis, TN. Then, the Mystery Spot.

On November 17th (note: a Wednesday), the package was “processed through USPS sort facility” in (this is straight from the tracking site) UNKNOWN, UN. And disappeared off the grid for three days. What happened in UNKNOWN, UN? I’m not sure I even *want* to know.

The package re-appeared today, tracking through New Hampshire for delivery. Not exactly 1-3 days, but far better than being lost in UNKNOWN-ville forever.

How does that song go? “This is the worst trip I’ve ever been on”? I wouldn’t go quite that far, but it’s been a wild ride, and not always in the fun way. But the joy of nano-noveling isn’t in the *doing*, necessarily, but in the *having done* — looking back and going “I wrote this?! How did I do that?”

That’s where I am tonight. I wrote this?! How? Why? And in a nano classic, while skimming through the file: I don’t remember *any* of this!

But here it is. 50,000 words of fic. Amen.

title: this is how the world begins
author: marcicat

word count:
summary: It’s the end of the world as we know it, and all the fandoms come out to play.

And really, was it that much of a stretch? Vegas had vacationing demons, Ohio had angels that ate pie, New York had masked superheroes. Okay.

Note 1: I have not read through this fic. At all. Edits/fixes still to come; posting now as a placeholder and proof of finishing.

Note 2: Somewhere along the way I apparently decided ‘chimerae’ was an acceptable pluralization of ‘chimera,’ despite all logic and grammatical evidence to the contrary. Sorry about that.

Resistance is Futile, by dmacabre
Sir Didymus winds up Aboveground in an awkward (and silly) situation. Sarah and Jareth team up to “rescue” him.

Jareth shook his head in mock reproach. “There are twigs in my hair, Sarah. Do not for a single moment imagine that I am enjoying this.”

Certain Powers, by klmorgan
Sarah loses contact with her friends in the Labyrinth, and pushes the limits of her own brand of magic to fix things (then invites Jareth to the Scrabble games).

“The invitation still stands. You’re always acting like you’re so much smarter than anyone else – let’s see how you do with seven vowels and a blank board in front of you.”

Forever, Not Long at All, by mede
Sarah uses Jareth as a babysitting service and starts teaching herself magic.

“He’s got a cold, there’s no one else I can call, and I have to get this essay finished before class in the morning. It’s worth twenty-five percent of my grade. So, yes, if I could please just have an hour here before going through the Labyrinth again to get him…”

I blame bluemeridian (but in the good way!), because this link showed up on my pinboard network via bluemeridian’s links.

When goblins steal Sarah’s feather duster (and a pair of pink stilettos), the Goblin King sends her a letter of apology (with a replacement duster and some leather boots). Thus begins a series of letters and gift giving that might just lead to something more. **||** [80.000 words]
(My Fine Feathered Friend, by Lixxle)

Though I’ve never seen Labyrinth, I figured, ‘eh, what the heck — sounds fun.’ Oops.

After spending an afternoon reading that, and considerably more over on A03, I’d also like to shout out to this one, because it has bamf!Sarah and some very cool worldbuilding:

Her Kingdom As Great, by MarbleGlove

Sarah was beginning to wonder if Jareth was bipolar or had ADD or something, maybe multiple personalities. That would be just her luck, stalked by a powerful fae king who alternated between teasing her and trying to trap her in eternal subjugation.
